Vol. 476 No. 6

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Noel Treacy

Question:

91 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction a project (details supplied) in County Galway; the date on which this will be done; the amount which will be allocated to this project in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7794/97]

Phase 1 of the Tuam regional water supply scheme, which is under construction at present and costing an estimated £22 million, is one of the major environmental projects being assisted under the EU Cohesion Fund. Co-financing has also been secured for the planning and design of phase 2 of the scheme, which is included in the water and sewerage services capital programme for 1997 as a scheme to be advanced through the planning and design stages in 1997. This second phase includes an extention to serve the area around Tuam. A preliminary report is awaited from Galway County Council in respect of the rural distribution networks.

Michael Creed

Question:

92 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received an application in respect of a group water scheme from a group (details supplied) in County Cork; and, if so, the current position regarding this application. [7795/97]

An application has been received in respect of a group water scheme to serve ten houses at this location. As already announced, responsibility for the administration of the group schemes programme is being devolved to the local authorities, subject to existing commitments on foot of approvals issued by my Department. Where schemes have not yet been approved, including the Toureenduve scheme, it will in future be a matter for the local authorities to decide on grant applications.
