Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - Hyperbaric Unit.

Joe Walsh

Question:

162 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the need for a hyperbaric centre in the Cork region; and the plans, if any, he has for the provision of such a centre. [8352/97]

Limerick East): My Department has received no proposals from the Southern Health Board regarding the installation of a hyperbaric unit which is used to treat patients who suffer “bends” as a result of deep water accidents. I have had inquiries made of the board and I understand there is such a unit in the naval base in Haulbowline which services the area. The board has confirmed it is satisfied with this arrangement.
