Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - Day Care Centres.

Máirín Quill

Question:

167 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Health the applications, if any, he has received with regard to a replacement day care centre for Teach Mhuire, Mayfield, Cork city; if he intends to give financial support in the 1997 financial year to this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8371/97]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware, the development of a day care centre for the elderly in Mayfield, Cork city is the responsibility of the Southern Health Board.

The Southern Health Board informs me that a local management committee at present operates a day care centre on two days per week in the board's health centre in Mayfield. However, the board has included the development of the Mayfield day care centre as part of its overall plan for the development of day hospitals-day care centres in the region. This plan is currently being examined by my Department.

Funding for the proposals contained within the board's plan, including the proposal for Mayfield, will be considered in the light of the board's internal priorities and the overall capital funding available to my Department.
