Ivor Callely

Question:

71 Mr. Callely asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the persons appointed by him or by the Ministers of State at his Department as programme managers, advisers, assistants or back-up staff, either in his Department or in constituency offices; the annual remuneration paid to these staff; the names of individuals, groups or companies which have undertaken or have been approved to undertake full-time, part-time or casual consultancies, reviews, examinations, analyses or any public relations service on his behalf or on behalf of the Ministers of State at his Department; and the full costs in respect of these to his Department. [8009/97]

The details of staff in my office and those of the Ministers of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and the office of the Tánaiste are a matter of public record. Accordingly, I refer to my reply to the Deputy's Questions No. 55 of 31 October 1996, No. 29 of 19 December 1996 and No. 47 of 20 March 1997. There has been no change in this position.

The details of consultants paid from the votes of the Department of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and the Office of the Tánaiste in 1995 were given in my reply to Questions No. 60 of 13 December 1995 and Nos. 58 and 59 of 30 October 1996.

Details in respect of 1996 were given in my reply to the Deputy's Question No. 29 of 19 December 1996. The update of that position and the expenditure to date in 1997 are as follows:

There is no change in the 1996 consultancy details for the Office of the Tánaiste. The cost to date in 1997 amounts to £5,000 and is in respect of the research study conducted by Kelleher and Associates relating to Violence against Women. Further costs of £7,123.87 in respect of the Study on the Social Economy by Fitzpatrick Associates, Economic Consultants are still expected to arise this year.
