Vol. 477 No. 1

Written Answers. - Farm Incomes.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

199 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the average proportion of farming income derived from grants and subsidies in each of the years from 1992 to date in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8382/97]

Extimates of the aggregate farm income, that is income from self-employment and other trading income, are available for each of the years 1992-96. These are measured by the CSO in its estimates of agricultural output, input and income. They include direct payments made to farmers under various CAP schemes which are income related. Capital investment payments are not included.

As is clear from the following table, which summarises the CSO figure, the share of aggregate farm income accounted for by direct income payments has risen sharply since 1992.
