Vol. 477 No. 3

Written Answers. - Prison Sentences.

Ivor Callely

Question:

131 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the actual sentence imposed on the prisoner referred to in reply to Parliamentary Question No. 128 of 27 February 1997, by Deputy Callely regarding Shelton Abbey; her understanding of the reason the prisoner has been there for a great many years; if the prisoner has made any special request before he is released. [9298/97]

The prisoner in question is serving a life sentence since 9 November 1964. I am precluded by long standing custom and practice from giving further details in the case of an individual prisoner. In this case, however, I would like to confirm that this prisoner has not made any special request relating to his release or otherwise in recent years.
