43 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the number and total value of personal tax payments received for the most recent annual figures available; and the comparative figures for each of the years 1983, 1984, 1993 and 1994. [9401/97]

I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the net receipt of income tax in each of the years 1983, 1984, 1993, 1994 and 1996, the latest available, is as follows:

Tax payments of £10 million and £220.8 million made in 1993 and 1994 respectively under the 1993 tax amnesty are excluded from the figures. The figure for 1996 is provisional.

The numbers of income taxpayers for each of the income tax years 1983-84, 1984-85, 1993-94, 1994-95 and 1996-97 are estimated as follows:
