Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Brendan Smith

Question:

81 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Education if the Minister of State at her Department will meet a deputation to discuss a project (details supplied) in County Cavan; if so, if the deputation will be received at an early date in view of the fact that the Minister of State stated at a meeting on 6 December 1995 that such a meeting would take place following receipt in her Department of the appropriate feasibility study; if her attention had been drawn to the fact that such a report was forwarded to her Department on 22 May 1996; if her attention has further been drawn to the concerns in relation to the delay in arranging such a meeting; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9493/97]

Following receipt in May 1996 of all the information sought, including the feasibility study report, the project in question was considered for grant assistance in the context of the funding available in 1996. Due to the large number of applications received and the limited funds available it was not possible to include the project for grant assistance.

This application, which is one of over one thousand applications received under the sports capital programme, will be given every consideration when decisions are being made on the 1997 applications.

In view of the increasing demands for deputations it is not possible to accede to all the requests received. The question of a further meeting with a deputation from the project in question is under consideration.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

82 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education if she has reconsidered the appointment of a remedial resource teacher at St. Macartan's College, Monaghan; when she will make such an appointment; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9494/97]

Since my appointment as Minister for Education I have allocated almost 100 additional ex-quota remedial posts to second level schools. The posts were allocated on the basis of priority of need and having regard to the existing provision within schools.

The position of St. Macartan's College will be considered again when next it is possible to extend the remediation service.
