Vol. 477 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Catchment Areas.

Máirín Quill

Question:

217 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Education the outcome of the recent meetings between officials from the planning section of her Department and representatives of parents associations of the schools concerned in relation to the establishment of a catchment area for the new community college in Glanmire, County Cork; the progress, if any, which has been made on the establishment of a catchment area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9798/97]

The issue of the drawing up of a catchment area for the new community college in Glanmire is a complex one, requiring discussions with many interest groups.

In accordance with my reply to Dáil Question No. 111 on Wednesday, 12 March last, an official from the planning section of my Department met recently with representatives of the parents' associations of the schools concerned and other relevant parties to discuss the establishment of a catchment area. Further meetings are being held this week to progress the matter.

When the necessary discussions have been completed, the drawing up of a catchment area for the new community college in Glanmire will be finalised as quickly as possible.
