Written Answers. - Local Authority Staff.

James McDaid

Question:

33 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for the Environment the statistics on the number of people with disabilities or the percentage who are employed by each county council in the country at administrative level. [6622/97]

Based on staffing returns supplied to my Department, the number and percentage of staff with disabilities in officer grades, that is, clerical-administrative and professional-technical grades, as at 31 December 1995 is set out in the following tabular statement. The staffing returns do not give a breakdown as between clerical-administrative officers and professional-technical officers.

Notes:
(1) Percentages are based on local authority staff (including part-time staff expressed as whole-time equivalents) but excluding staff employed on short-term contracts for capital works projects, etc.
(2) The employment target of 3 per cent for people with disabilities is based on the total numbers employed; there is no requirement that it should be applied equally across grades and types of employment.
