Vol. 477 No. 6

Written Answers. - Back to Work Scheme.

Mary Harney

Question:

107 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Social Welfare the recompense, if any, available for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 24, whose employer on a back to work scheme refused to pay a phone bill of £400 for business calls made during the course of his work; and if this employer can be investigated for his suitability to participate in this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10043/97]

I understand the person concerned, who was a recipient of the back to work allowance, came to a verbal agreement with his employer, who is also a recipient of the allowance, in relation to payment of the costs of business calls. Any such agreement would be a matter between the parties concerned. The local jobs facilitator of my Department has interviewed the employer concerned and is satisfied that no further action can be taken by her to resolve this issue. There are no funds available to my Department from which recompense could be made to the person concerned in circumstances of this kind.

As it now appears the person concerned has recommended employment with another employer, I am looking at the possibility of having his back to work allowance of £93.20 restored to him in respect of this employment. I will write to the Deputy about his matter when my Department investigations have been completed.
