141 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Defence the total capital expenditure and the nature of the works carried out on the Curragh Prison, County Kildare, during the three years before it was handed over to the Department of Justice; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10102/97]

The Military Detention Barracks, Curragh Camp, was handed over to the Department of Justice for use as a civilian prison in 1996. Expenditure of approximately £56,000 was incurred by my Department on painting and boiler replacement works in the three year period preceding the handover.
