Vol. 478 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Joe Costello

Question:

202 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has for the Garda station at Drumcollogher, County Limerick; whether she will leave it in the Mallow District or transfer it to the Newcastlewest Garda district; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10729/97]

Drumcollogher Garda sub-district has been part of the Mallow Garda district since 21 September 1991. The new Cork north division has operational and administrative control of the Mallow Garda district.

I am currently awaiting further information from the Garda authorities in relation to the possibility of altering the sub-divisions in the area referred to in the question. As soon as this information is to hand I expect to be in a position to make a decision in the matter. However, I should point out to the Deputy that I am guided by the operational knowledge and expertise of the Garda authorities in relation to these matters and that any decision will be based on the deployment of Garda personnel and resources to optimum effect to ensure that the best possible policing service to the area is provided.
