Question:

224 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of persons currently on community employment schemes; if he will give a breakdown between men and women and an analysis of each for those on unemployment assistance or unemployment benefit, lone parent's allowance, invalidity pension, REHAB allowance and other allowances. [10593/97]

At the end of March 1997, there were 40,553 participants on community employment. The following table gives a breakdown between males and females participating under each eligible category.
