248 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the steps, if any, he has taken to protect the traditional cereal growers from the penalties they will incur from an overshoot of the national base area, which is certain to occur this year. [10649/97]

I am at present seeking changes to EU legislation, which would provide a significant level of protection for existing cereal producers from penalties arising from any overshoot of the national base area.
