78 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Education the action, if any, she proposes to take to ensure that there is adequate funding available to Aontas for its national literacy programme and the fulfilment of its Campaign 2000; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11088/97]
The funding provided by my Department to Aontas, and for literacy programmes generally, has been progressively increased in recent years. It is my intention to continue this increase in funding as resources permit.
My commitment to develop and enhance the programmes in place to address adult literacy and numeracy problems, and adult education in general, is reflected both in the policy measures proposed in the White Paper Charting Our Education Future and the commitments made under Partnership 2000.
