Vol. 478 No. 4

Written Answers. - Liquor Licensing Laws.

Noel Ahern

Question:

190 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice the current position in relation to pub licensing laws; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11436/97]

The Deputy will be aware that the Select Committee on Legislation and Security and the Competition Authority are currently reviewing the liquor licensing laws. When the reports of the select committee and the Competition Authority are published, any recommendations they may make in relation to those laws will be given detailed consideration in my Department.

The only recent legislative development in relation to the licensing laws for public houses is the Licensing (Combating Drug Abuse) Bill, 1997, which deals with drug abuse on licensed premises and is currently before the House.
