Vol. 478 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Micheál Martin

Question:

192 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will award a one parent family allowance to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [11172/97]

It was decided on 25 April 1997 that the person concerned is not entitled to the one-parent family payment as according to the information available to the Department she is residing with another person as husband and wife.

The person concerned has been notified of this decision and of her right of appeal to the independent social welfare appeals office if she is not satisfied with the decision.

Michael Ring

Question:

193 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved in respect of an old age pension. [11296/97]

Following a reassessment of the entitlement when her daughter left full-time education, the person concerned had her widows' pension reduced to £10.50 per week. This was based on means assessment of £58.85 per week, derived from farming. As a result of a subsequent review of means requested by the person concerned her means were assessed at a figure which was in excess of the statutory limit receipt of widow's pension.

Her appeal was received at the social welfare appeals office on 11 March 1997 and was referred to an appeals officer who considered that an oral hearing of the appeal is necessary. This will take place as soon as possible and the person will be advised of the exact date and venue as soon as arrangements have been completed.
