Vol. 478 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

121 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education when funding will be made available to a school (details supplied) in County Cork in view of the fact that it has been upgraded from junior to senior cycle; and if her attention has been drawn to the urgent need for funding for new classrooms. [11754/97]

A letter requesting the school management to confirm its acceptance of the accommodation brief issued from my Department on 23 April. When this confirmation is received, the project will progress through the remaining stages of the architectural planning process to the preparation of tender documentation. The question of funding arises only when this documentation is finalised and will be considered in the light of existing contractual commitments at that time.

Question:

122 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if she will make funding available to a school (details supplied) in County Cork for funding and equipping new facilities. [11755/97]

My Department's post-primary building unit is currently examining the need for new science laboratories being provided by the management authorities of the school in County Cork referred to by the Deputy. A decision regarding grant-aid towards the cost of furnishing and equipping these facilities will be taken in the light of the outcome of this examination and the availability of financial resources. The Department will be in contact with the school authorities as quickly as possible.
