Vol. 478 No. 6

Written Answers. - Prisoner Transfers.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

153 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Justice if she will review the situation of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who wishes to transfer from Mountjoy to Portlaoise prison; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the parents of this person are very anxious for a number of reasons that he be transferred; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11905/97]

I am aware of the case to which the Deputy refers and while I have given it every consideration I am not prepared to authorise a transfer to Portlaoise prison at this time. It is long-standing practice not to comment in detail on individual prisoners cases. I see no reason to depart from the above practice in this instance other than to say that I will keep the case under review.
