Vol. 478 No. 7

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Ring

Question:

165 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education the reason inaccurate information was given by officials in her Department in relation to the request for a reduction in the local contribution amount towards the building project at a school (details supplied) in County Mayo; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12226/97]

Misleading information was not given by officials of my Department in respect of the correspondence to which the Deputy refers. At the time my letter to the Deputy was prepared, no application had been received from the school in question. However, during the two working days which elapsed between preparation and issue of the letter, an application was received from the school. I regret any inconvenience this may have caused to the Deputy.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

166 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education if funding will be provided in 1997 to provide an extension to Inver national school, County Donegal; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12227/97]

The capital funding available this year for primary schools has already been allocated and it is not possible to take on additional commitments. Funding for improved accommodation at Inver national school will be considered again in the light of future capital allocations.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

167 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education when funding will be provided by her Department to upgrade schools (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12228/97]

The position regarding funding to upgrade the first three schools referred to by the Deputy is that the capital available this year for primary schools has already been allocated and it is not possible to take on additional commitments. Funding for the proposed works will be considered again in light of future capital allocations. The schools have been advised of the position. The application to upgrade the fourth school referred to by the Deputy is being considered within my Department at present. A decision will be conveyed to the school as quickly as possible. This decision will be taken in the context of the financial resources available.
