254 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice if the fact that the Minister for the Environment has signed the order banning the overnight parking of heavy goods vehicles in residential areas has been conveyed to the Garda Commissioner; when enforcement will commence; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) 1997 Regulations which include provisions for the banning of the parking of large vehicles in residential areas, were signed by the Minister for the Environment on 1 May 1997 and will come into force on 1 October 1997.
My Department received copies of the Regulations on 12 May 1997 and these have been forwarded to the Garda Commissioner to ensure their implementation when they come into force.
