Vol. 479 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

360 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when slaughter premia for February and March 1996 will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal as well as the beef premium balance for 125 cattle for January, March and May 1996; and when his area aid application will be rectified. [12824/97]

The person named lodged a total of six applications under the 1996 special beef premium scheme. He was paid £8,728.43 on foot of these applications, representing an 80 per cent advance.

The making of balancing payments to herd-downers requires checks and controls associated with the land parcel identification system (LPIS). Digitising of the land concerned will be completed this week and the balancing payments will issue within ten days. An application was received on 11 July, 1996 for 68 animals under the 1996 deseasonalisation slaughter premium scheme. Payment was made in respect of 65 animals. Cheques totalling £3,064.69 have issued to date. The three remaining animals applied for were not recorded as having been paid the special beef premium, which is one of the conditions of the scheme. However, it has since been established that the three animals were retagged. These animals are currently being processed for payment under the old tag numbers and a cheque will issue shortly.

John Ellis

Question:

366 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will have arrangements made to pay a REP scheme grant to persons (details supplied) in County Leitrim. [12832/97]

The REP scheme includes provision for a compliance check prior to the making of second year or subsequent payments. This check involves a detailed assessment of all aspects of the plan and includes an on farm inspection.

The applicant has been selected for such a check and an inspection will be carried out shortly. Assuming that everything is in order, payment will issue as soon as possible thereafter.
