Vol. 479 No. 2

Written Answers. - Nursing Homes Inspection.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

89 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Health if he will request the relevant health board to give a current report on a nursing home (details supplied) in County Westmeath which has carried out the necessary work to its premises and which meets with the approval and certification of the Fire Officer. [12522/97]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware the Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990, assigns responsibility for the inspection of nursing homes to health boards. Articles 27.1 to 27.3 of the Nursing Homes Care and Welfare Regulations, 1993, as amended by Statutory Instrument Number 147 of 1994, list the fire precautions which proprietors of nursing homes must take to ensure compliance with the regulations.

I have asked the chief executive officer of the Midland Health Board to investigate this matter and respond directly to the Deputy.
