Vol. 479 No. 3
117 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of long-term unemployed in April in each of the years from 1994 to 1997. [13122/97]
An analysis of unemployment duration is compiled twice each year in respect of a date in April and a date in October.
The following table sets out the number of persons on the live register for various durations of continuous registration in April 1994, April 1995 and April 1996.
The equivalent figures for April 1997 are due to be published by the Central Statistics Office in July 1997. It is expected that these figures will show a significant drop in the number of long-term unemployed as the overall live register fell by 25,859 between April 1996 and April 1997. The decline in the number of long-term unemployed is expected to be around 123,000 by the end of 1997.
