Vol. 480 No. 2

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Michael Ring

Question:

257 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo, who was on a pre-retirement pension, was then assessed for the pension and lost everything; and if he will have this case reassessed and his pension restored. [13523/97]

The person concerned was in receipt of pre-retirement allowance at a reduced rate on the basis of a means assessment of £48.60 per week, derived from farming income.

His means were recently reviewed, resulting in an assessment of £151.15 per week, derived from farming income and capital. This assessment is above the limit entitling him to pre-retirement allowance and his allowance was terminated with effect from 1 May 1997. He appealed this decision to the Social Welfare Appeals Office on 20 June 1977. The appeal has been listed for oral hearing by an appeals officer in Ballina during week commencing 4 August 1997
