Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

78 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the need for an extension at Confey College, Leixlip, County Kildare; the immediate proposals, if any, he has to meet this need; if he will ensure that the necessary financial provision is made in 1997 or in 1998; when the extension will be operational; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14182/97]

An extension is currently being planned for Confey Community College, Leixlip, County Kildare, to cater for a long-term enrolment of 750 pupils.

Because the project is in the early stages of architectural planning, the question of funding in 1997 does not arise. Decisions on the 1998 capital programme will be taken in the light of the extent of funding made available and the Department's other commitments and priorities in the capital area.

It is not possible at this point to give a definite date for construction to begin.

[14184/97]

Interviews for the appointment of a design team in respect of the building project at Scoil Mhuire, Clane, County Kildare, took place on 13 January 1997 and the commission was awarded shortly thereafter.

When the detailed design and bill of quantities have been prepared the project will be ready to proceed to tender. Every effort will be made to ensure that there are no delays at any of the stages in the planning process.
