Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

405 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a decision will be made on an appeal for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo in view of the fact that he is suffering financial hardship. [14757/97]

The person concerned was in receipt of unemployment assistance at the rate of £ 72.90 per week, based on means assessed at £ 41.40, derived from this spouses earnings and the net yearly value of land. His case was reviewed recently and, on the basis of increased means, his unemployment assistance was reduced to £ 50.90 per week.

The case is at present with the Social Welfare Appeals Office which has requested the necessary documentation. The appeal will be considered by an appeals officer when this is available.
