Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Consultancy Contracts.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

412 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the number of consultancy contracts awarded by him or by the Ministers of State at his Department; their value and purpose; the costs in terms of salary or consultancy fees; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15044/97]

One consultancy contract has been awarded by my Department since I took up office. The purpose of the contract, valued at £ 25,865, is to review the disincentive effects of secondary benefits.

This review will help to assess the importance of secondary benefits and other entitlements in the decision to take up work and the effectiveness of the current arrangements in terms of assisting people to return to or remain in work.
