Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Psychological Service.

Willie Penrose

Question:

589 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education if he will have arrangements made with the post-primary psychological service for an assessment of a person (details supplied) in County Offaly. [14599/97]

The psychological service in my Department has had contact previously with the pupil referred to by the Deputy.

When a parent wants to have a child assessed, the usual approach is to request the principal of the school where the child is attending to make contact with the psychological service in my Department.

When the school contacts the area psychologist, arrangements will be made to provide whatever advice and assistance is required.
