Question:

89 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Defence the amount of money received from commercial banks in the year 1995-96 and to date in 1997 for providing security. [15256/97]

The sum of £2,250,000 was paid to my Department by the commercial banks in each of the years 1995 and 1996 in respect of the provision by the Defence Forces of assistance to the Garda Síochána in protecting movements of cash. A further £2,250,000 is due in respect of 1997. This payment is made in the month of December in each year.
