Vol. 481 No. 1

Written Answers. - Private Detective Licences.

John Ellis

Question:

220 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, his Department has in relation to the licensing of private detectives. [15374/97]

: A consultative group is at present reviewing activities in the private security industry. I understand that the group is considering options for increased self-regulation, possible licensing of companies and the case for statutory regulation of the sector. Those engaged in private investigations, however, do not come within the scope of the group's remit and I have no plans at this stage to include them.
