Ivor Callely

Question:

232 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will issue a full list of names of all appointments and the State organisation to which the appointments were made in relation to each appointment made to bodies under the aegis of his Department during the months of May and June 1997; the period of the appointment; and the date on which the next appointments will be made for each body. Mary Hanafin

Question:

234 Ms Hanafin asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the number of appointments made to boards or bodies under the aegis of his Department between 1 May 1997 and 26 June 1997; the names of the appointees; the boards to which they were appointed; and the number of board vacancies which remained vacant after 26 June, but which could have been filled prior to 26 June. : I propose to take Questions Nos. 232 and 234 together.

In relation to the two State-sponsored bodies under the aegis of my Department, one appointment was made during the months of May and June of this year.

Mr. Enda Marron was appointed to the board of Bord Fáilte on 26 June 1997. This appointment will be for a period of five years. The next vacancy on the board of Bord Fáilte falls due on 29 November 1997, and the next vacancy on the board of CERT falls due on 7 December 1997. No vacancies, which could have been filled prior to 26 June 1997 remained vacant after that date.

Question:

233 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has appointed a programme manager or special adviser; if so, the salary paid to them and the terms of their contract; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15431/97]

: I have appointed a special adviser to my office at an annual salary of £36,757. The terms of the special adviser's contract are in the process of being finalised. In accordance with the Ethics in Public Office Act, 1995, the contract will be laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas in due course.
