Vol. 481 No. 1

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion.

Brendan Daly

Question:

77 Mr. Daly asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will ensure that additional funding is provided to deal with the serious problems of coastal erosion in County Clare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15627/97]

My Department is providing 75 per cent grant aid to Clare County Council to undertake a £100,000 protection scheme at Rhinevella Bay. This location is Clare County Council's priority for protection. The grant aid being made available to the council will help address erosion at the most critical points. The provision of additional aid for erosion works in County Clare will continue to be considered over the remaining years of the operational programme for environmental services.
