Question:

132 Ms Hanafin asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the number of consultants, if any, engaged by his Department between 1 April 1997 and 26 June 1997; the amounts paid to each consultant; the work undertaken by each consultant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15864/97]

In the period from 1 April 1997 to 26 June 1997, consultancy firms were engaged by my Department to provide assistance in respect of three projects.

These are:

The implementation of new financial management systems in the Department. The consultancy work is due to be completed early in 1998. No payments have been made to date.

The review of the scheme of grants for men's groups. This project has been completed and the consultants report is being prepared for publication. A total of £4,840 has been paid in respect of this consultancy.

Stage 2 of the National Pensions Initiative which includes a consultation process pensions conference and the compilation of a report on income-related pensions coverage. Work on this project is due for completion in early December 1997. A total of £38,720 has been paid to date.

**As the contract at (a) was awarded as a result of a competitive tendering process, the Deputy will appreciate that it would be imprudent to reveal details of the cost in that case.
