Vol. 481 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Security.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

135 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the steps, if any, he will take to ensure that a school (details supplied) in Dublin 6W, which is the subject of constant vandalism, is adequately protected before this school is damaged beyond repair. [15805/97]

Since 1 January 1997 the Garda Síochána have received a number of complaints of windows being broken in the school. A number of arrests were subsequently made. The area is patrolled by the local community garda as well as by gardaí involved in Operation Dóchas and will continue to receive the appropriate Garda attention.

I understand that my colleague, Deputy Martin, the Minister for Education and Science, is considering the provision of a security fence around the school.
