Vol. 481 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Dick Spring

Question:

150 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Education and Science the current state of development in relation to the extension of Tralee regional technical college; and the overall timetable for project. [15799/97]

An outline development plan for a new site which has been acquired for the college at Dromthacker has been approved by the Department. The first phase of a major rolling capital development programme for the college, estimated to cost around £6 million, is at an advanced stage of planning and the college's design team should be in a position to prepare tender documenation in the near future. Building work on this project is due to commence in early 1998 and finish in mid-1999.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

151 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the unacceptable delay in progressing the extension to St. Mary's College, Naas, County Kildare, which will increase the overall enrolment numbers to 800; when the extension will move to stage 4; if he will give a timeframe in which the remainder of the stages will be progressed; when construction will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15800/97]

The proposed extension to St. Mary's College, Naas, County Kildare is currently at stage III of the architectural planning developed sketch scheme. My Department's technical staff are finalising their examination of this documentation. When this examination has been completed, the school authorities will be contacted so that the remaining stages of architectural planning can proceed. It is not possible at this stage to say when construction will commence.
