Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

154 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science the steps, if any, he will take to ensure that a school (details supplied) in Dublin 6W, which is the subject of constant vandalism, is adequately protected before this school is damaged beyond repair; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15804/97]

I have approved grant assistance towards the cost of providing a security fence at the schools referred to by the Deputy. My Department's building unit has requested the Office of Public Works to assist the schools with the execution of the works as a matter of urgency.

Billy Kelleher

Question:

155 Mr. Kelleher asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give a progress report on a school (details supplied) in Cork city; and when construction will begin. [15806/97]

The school management confirmed their acceptance of the accommodation brief on 17 September 1997. My Department's architectural service has commenced work on the sketch scheme for the proposed project. This will issue shortly to the school for approval. At this stage it is too early to say when construction will commence.
