Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Jim Higgins — the need to clarify the situation in relation to court cases involving assaults on persons which are currently pending in light of last week's High Court decision that assault and battery may no longer be a crime in this jurisdiction; (2) Deputy Deenihan — the provision of the necessary funding to enable stage four of the Listowel regional water scheme to go ahead; (3) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the need to deal with the deplorable state of Cork Street, Dublin 8, which is the last derelict main route to the city centre; (4) Deputy Neville — the need to publish the final report of the National Task Force on Suicide; (5) Deputy McGennis — the status of the report formed to produce guidelines on prescribing and dispensing methadone and the need to introduce regulations to prevent the dispensing of methadone in quantities greater than 100 milligrams and physeptone in quantities greater than 250 millilitres; (6) Deputy Ellis — the proposed redundancies at Ballinamore Textiles, Ballinamore, County Leitrim; (7) Deputy Jim O'Keeffe — the delay in completing repairs to the Garda station at Ballinspittle, County Cork, and to urge the completion of same as soon as possible; (8) Deputy Donal Moynihan — the progress made in relation to the live cattle and beef trade in Egypt following the recent visit by the Minister for Agriculture and Food; (9) Deputy Upton — the recent reports on the dangers presented by shampoos containing the organophosphate malathion and the need to outline the position on the use of such products; (10) Deputy Farrelly — the procedure in place when officials of the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs interview social welfare recipients and whether it is normal to tape such conversations; (11) Deputy Clune — the postponement of the £148 million investment by Seagate in Ringaskiddy, County Cork; (12) Deputy John Bruton — the delay in the completion of the design scheme for the new second level school at Trim, County Meath, at the Model School site; (13) Deputy Cooper-Flynn — the progress of the North Mayo Enterprise initiative on securing new employment for the north Mayo region as Asahi is due to cease trading in November with the loss of 315 jobs; (14) Deputy Broughan — the implementation of the special amenity area order for the Howth peninsula to protect this wonderful amenity for Dubliners.

The matters raised by Deputies Neville, Upton, Jim Higgins and John Bruton have been selected for discussion.
