Vol. 481 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cardiac Services.

Paul Bradford

Question:

121 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will increase the funding available for cardiac surgery at Cork University Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16039/97]

Significant development of cardiac facilities has taken place at the hospital over the past three years. A second cardiac surgeon and a second cardiologist have been appointed, and a second cardiac theatre and an expanded intensive care unit were opened in November 1994, involving a capital investment of £2.2 million.

The question of cardiac surgery facilities in Cork University Hospital is being considered in the context of a review of cardiac care services generally.
