Vol. 481 No. 3

Written Answers. - Private Nursing Home Subventions.

Austin Deasy

Question:

23 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on whether it is fair that private nursing homes should have to suffer with the suspension of subvention applications due to the South-Eastern Health Board's financial position; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15939/97]

I am aware of the current position regarding the funding of private nursing home subventions by the South-Eastern Health Board.

My Department is in discussion with the board with a view to resolving the current difficulties being experienced by the board in meeting the additional service demands under this scheme.

I understand that the board has not suspended the receipt of subvention applications which will continue to be processed, and appropriate payments made.
