Vol. 481 No. 3

Written Answers. - Abortion Information.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

44 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has satisfied himself with the operation of the Regulation of Information (Services outside the State for Termination of Pregnancies) Act, 1995; if he intends to propose any amendment to that Act; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15912/97]

The purpose of the Regulation of Information (Services outside the State for Termination of Pregnancies) Act, 1995 is to regulate the manner in which persons or agencies provide information about pregnancy termination services outside the State. Pregnancy counselling services in Ireland must operate strictly within the provisions of this legislation. Any alleged or suspected breach of these provisions would be a matter for investigation by the Garda Síochána and for prosecution by or with the consent of the Director of Public Prosecutions. I have no plans to amend the Act.
