Vol. 481 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

55 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has for the upgrading of equipment and facilities in hospitals throughout the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15941/97]

The capital commitments arising each year generally tend to arise from decisions on individual projects, many of which involve expenditure for several years. The total capital sum available for 1997 for the health services is £108.743 million, which includes £7.0 million for information technology, and I am setting out on the following statement, for the Deputy's information, the principal hospital projects which are being planned or are at the construction or equipping stage and which are being funded from this allocation. In addition, provision will be made, to the extent that resources permit, in relation to meeting expenditure on urgent minor capital requirements, including maintenance and fire precaution works, replacement hospital equipment etc. at various locations around the country.
