Question:

74 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Health and Children if it is proposed to build a unit for children in the grounds of St Ita's Psychiatric Hospital, Portrane, County Dublin. [15933/97]

The Eastern Health board proposes to build a special care unit for 24 children and young people between the ages of 11 and 17 in the grounds of St. Ita's Psychiatric Hospital, Portrane, County Dublin.

The unit will cater for non-offending children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties who are in need of special care and education.
The board is currently consulting with local residents in regard to this proposal.
