Vol. 481 No. 6

Written Answers - RTC Sector.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

49 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education and Science his views on the recent remarks by people in the regional technical college sector that the abolition of university fees may reduce the appeal of the regional technical college sector to students. [16712/97]

Choice of courses at third level is influenced by many considerations such as the entry points and employment opportunities following the course of study. It is very difficult to evaluate the affect of any one factor on student preferences.

However, I can assure the Deputy that I am committed to recognising and promoting the significant role played by the technological sector on promoting regional and national developments.
