Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Scheme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

168 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Finance the steps, if any, he has taken to ensure that urban renewal and resort-type schemes will be developed over three years and then moved on to new areas. [16921/97]

The pilot tax relief scheme for certain resort areas was introduced on 1 July 1995 for a three year period. Although the pilot scheme will run until 30 June 1998 it is currently under review by officials from my Department, the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation and the Revenue Commissioners. Any decision regarding the future of the scheme will have to take into consideration the findings of this review. The Government has already given approval for the implementation of the framework proposals for a new scheme of urban renewal which were approved by the previous Government.
