Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Noonan

Question:

316 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will increase the transport grant being paid to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick regarding the travel costs of their handicapped child to Lisnagry special school in County Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17204/97]

I understand that the maximum grant allowable under the current school transport scheme, having regard to the distance involved and the child's attendance record, has already been sanctioned and paid in this case.

However, I also understand that the parents of the child in question have been asked to provide my Department with details of their particular difficulty. I can assure the Deputy that, on receipt of this information, the matter will be given further consideration.
