Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Enda Kenny

Question:

321 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will instruct a senior official of his Department to talk to the school concerned in order to provide facilities to educate a person (details supplied) in County Mayo; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the person concerned is not receiving any education at the moment and is therefore not receiving his constitutional rights; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17241/97]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy.

My Department's psychological service and inspectorate have been involved in this case for some time endeavouring to ensure that appropriate educational provision is made having regard to the boy's particular needs. These efforts which are ongoing at present involve extensive consultations with local school authorities for the purpose of ensuring that he resumes his education as quickly as possible.
