Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

43 Mr. M. Moynihan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the decision, if any, he has made in relation to the location of the Garda station in Newmarket, County Cork; and if he will respect the wishes of the local gardaí who provide an excellent service to the community which is considerably facilitated by the central location of the current Garda station. [17096/97]

The Office of Public Works has been asked to examine a number of options for the improvement of Garda accommodation in Newmarket. While it is appreciated that the local gardaí have a preference to remain in the existing building a number of factors, including the cost of refurbishment of the existing building, will have a bearing on the final recommendation. It is not possible to say at this stage when Newmarket might be advanced since it is dependent on overall priorities and the availability of finance.
