Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Land Registry Office Staffing.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

82 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will immediately increase the number of staff in the Land Registry Office in order to eliminate the delay experienced by applicants for completion of Land Registry dealings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16868/97]

I am very satisfied with the efforts being made by the Land Registry to address the problem of the delays referred to by the Deputy. During a period of increased work intake and static staffing numbers, the Registry has actually reduced its overall arrears of work and has substantially improved the average processing time for transactions.

The Land Registry will continue to introduce initiatives which increase efficiency and output and I have no plans, therefore, for an increase in staff.
